What is a patio?

A patio is an outdoor platform installed close to the ground and supported by piles. It can be used to relax, have a drink, or dine in the backyard. Your patio may or may not be attached to your house.

A patio can also be installed further from the home, for example, in a wooded corner of the yard, by the water, or near a spa.

A patio can even be built on the roof of a flat-roofed building, whether it’s a condo building, a duplex, a restaurant, or a pub.

Patios can be built with various materials, but most are made from treated wood or fiberglass.

Unlike decks (which we also build), patios are not significantly raised from the ground. Decks can even be built on the second floor of a house or on flat rooftops.

The advantage of patios is the privacy they offer, as they are close to the ground and shielded from neighbors' view. Privacy panels can also be added if needed.

And by adding railings and a roof to your patio, you get a beautiful gazebo that protects you from rain and sun.

MATERIALS USED

For patio construction, we use composite wood (recycled polyethylene mixed with recycled wood/bamboo fibers). This eco-friendly material does not crack, is not attacked by rot, and is extremely resistant and durable. Plus, it does not need to be treated to be waterproof.

We also use Western Red Cedar for patio construction. This wood species is more durable than others and resists warping and splitting. This material needs to be protected from the weather with an oil-based finish.

Pressure-treated wood can also be used for patio construction. However, even if it's treated, it's recommended to apply a protective varnish every 3 years.

Ipe wood : Ipe is a tropical hardwood with very hard wood (66 to 75 pounds per cubic foot) and demonstrates exceptional durability. Ipe wood has a Class A fire rating and exceeds slip resistance requirements when the surface is wet. For your patio construction, we offer a wide range of board dimensions.

American Yellow Pine : This is 100% edge-to-edge treated wood. The pressure treatment process with crushed copper carbonate (called Micropro) allows the preservative to penetrate the entire piece of wood. No chemical solvents are used, and the treatment is less corrosive than those based on copper.

Fiberglass : Fiberglass patios are lightweight, waterproof, non-slip, and resistant to scratches and wear from furniture scraping and winter shoveling. They resist UV rays from the sun, acid rain, and cleaning products. In addition, fiberglass is non-flammable.
